Take That at the O2 Arena

Listening to Take That tonight I was amazed how positive their lyrics are in a world where many lyrics are offensive or at the very least banal. For example:

"Sometimes we don't know what we're waiting for
That's the time to be the first one on the dance floor"

So true!

and...

" Stop being so hard on yourself
It's not good for your health"

and...

"Never forget where you've come here from
Never pretend that it's all real
Someday soon this will all be someone else's dream"

Wise words, and the boys aren't too bad to look at either!

Artist books on the go

I am working on artist books for the class I am taking on artist books. I am working on three: "not THAT facebook" which is a collection of faces in magazines with the background collaged over, and blank pages for me to try and draw those faces; "a seed grows in a hidden place" which is a series of drawings depicting the imaginary development of the soul trees I started drawing this year; and "dictionary fauna" which is a mixed media book built on dictionary pages showing different animal definitions (a-z) with single line sketches of each animal and stamped text.

As you can see, I am not a one project start to finish kinda gal! I'll post some scans of these later on...

Habits are just as hard to start

Goldfish001web

I have a problem that I just don't understand. I see a disparity between what I am creating and what I am sharing with the world. Now, many of us are on a search for authenticity and I am certainly not being authentic with my portrayal of my art, if much/most of what I am creating isn't shown. Perhaps it is because the newer, more personal stuff, the stuff that doesn't fit a mould or fad, feels more personal, makes me feel more vulnerable. Perhaps it is because I am playing with my Lomo LCA+ which shoots film, so it takes longer to get prints to you. Perhaps I am just to lazy to scan stuff in. Hmmm. I will sleep on it and maybe have a scanning session tomorrow. I am working on two artist books for my class on Tuesday, so I will share the WIP.

Meanwhile, I haven't shown you this fishy that I did just for fun and gave to my Mum. It was inspired by 'scales' at Illustration Friday, but inspiration doesn't always follow the calendar!
