ATCs finished!

I finished my ATCs for the ATC book Bee Shay is putting together for Artfest this year. I have never done them before and was a little bit wary because the ATCs I have seen most often weren't really my style. Then I found this wonderful site which reminded me that there are no rules; these are artists' trading cards and they should reflect you as an artist, not the current fashion. The theme for our book is Artfest, so I went with the idea that at Artfest you can set your inner artist free.Artfest_08_atcs

I'm really please with how they came out. They feel lovely too, very sturdy and tactile, with the dimensional paste that is under the hair and title. The idea of doing runs of artwork is quite new to me, so planning the work involved in making multiples is a bit hit and miss. I made 30 of these and they involved 9 or 10 separate steps. They all look basically similar, but each one is unique, particularly about the hair and eyelashes. I did the back of the card on the computer though, thankfully!

The things that can't be washed in the cold weather have been checked carefully for moth larva and are being stored in lavender soaked pillow cases (not completely soaked!). But oh the panic! I have quilts and afghans by great-aunts and great -grandmothers and textile arts from all over the world. Keep your fingers crossed for me and share any moth-related wisdom...

Felted hedgehog

I took a felt-making class on Saturday and I just loved it. It is so tactile and so immediate. It does take about 3 days for some stuff to completely dry, but it is worth it. I am feeling very viral and dispirited this week, so posts and emails are running very short. For now, here is a  hedgehog prototype - I think I will be trading these at Artfest this year, maybe along with some charms, I do like the charms.  I will add my strawberry felted picture and the amazing slice-em-open-see -the-colours  ball and rope later.Hedgehog
